The Escapee

The terrified, exhausted man scrambled through the trees and scrub as he saw the portal opening, and the visitors that came from it. He wasn’t a brave man. Matter-of-fact he spent most of his time on the floors scrubbing, and the majority of that being mocked and kicked about by the others. When found a bush to hide behind, he stopped and looked back, watching the visitors, but only spent a few moments watching the carnage before racing away to save his life. Far on the other side of the beach were several boats. He was the only one who made it back to them. He leaped in and quickly began rowing away from the death. He had to make it to the main camp, and prayed the small vessel would survive the tumultuous waters.
